Resume Writing Service Scams
Resume Writing Service ScamsScams for resume writing service are a common scenario for most job seekers. Although there are legitimate companies and individuals, it is still very hard to tell the genuine from the not so legitimate. The biggest reason why a resume writer becomes a scam is because they are not well versed with how resumes should be written. The writing should be professional and you should write in an orderly manner. This is why a good writer should be able to do a resume that meets both of these requirements.A resume writer should understand how to develop a resume. They should be able to create a well-written resume for you that meets all the qualifications of how your skills and experience should be presented on the document. Since resumes can be a very important tool, you want the person or company you hire to put their best foot forward and be able to give you the most accurate possible copy. You will find this out when you have to go through your resume or CV many times to find the exact same information in order to get a job. There are so many companies and individuals that say they can provide resume writing services, however, be careful. It is very easy to fall for these scams and end up with nothing. This happens more often than not because you just don't see enough writers who do their jobs right. Most of the scam companies are not reputable and hire resume writers who do not know what they are doing or take too long to complete the job. They often use bad language and misuse grammar, punctuation and spelling. If you have decided to employ a resume writing service to do the job for you, you must get everything you expect done at the minimum time frame. The other reason why it is important to consider the quality of the resume writing service you will choose is because the person or people who will be handling your resume will be reading it over several times before they finish. As a result, if the resume has been written poorly, it will no t be presentable to the person who will use it in an interview.A scammer will attempt to use a little 'dirt' or incorrect information on your resume, if they feel they will get away with it. Do not be fooled by someone who offers you a free resume writing service; they will ask for a fee upfront and the scam is complete.Resume writing service scams are very hard to find and when you do discover them, you should report them to the proper authorities. Any company or individual that has scammed you is one that should be taken off your list of potential hiring sources. As stated earlier, scams are easy to spot; just know the warning signs.

Can Your Resume and Cover Letter Use a Little Passion
Can Your Resume and Cover Letter Use a Little Passion Can Your Resume and Cover Letter Use a Little Passion? Can Your Resume and Cover Letter Use a Little Passion A large portion of us are drawn toward individuals who are enthusiastic about their work. Their eagerness can move us to improve things, spike us vigorously, or simply cause us to feel great about ourselves. That is the reason somebody like Oprah Winfrey has been fruitful for about 25 years. That is the means by which Martin Luther King Jr. changed the manner in which we see ourselves. Furthermore, that is the reason a games group that dominates a major match against extraordinary chances motivates something beyond its standard fans. To put it plainly, they ooze enthusiasm, and they can light energy in us. Could your resume and introductory letter utilize a little enthusiasm? In case you're not getting calls for interviews, investigate how you're introducing yourself in those basic vocation reports. To check whether your resume needs a portion of enthusiasm, ask yourself these three inquiries: 1. What is it about my vocation and my objective occupations that energizes me? Is there some part of your work that you really appreciate, that you know you're acceptable at, and that doesn't feel like work? Perhaps something that makes you anticipate getting into the workplace on Monday while you're spending a peaceful Sunday at home? 2. Do I express excitement for what I like to do and the outcomes I convey? Consider these two different ways of communicating your incentive in an introductory letter: In my seven years as a budgetary investigator at XYZ Company, I made basic proposals on corporate interests in different nations. I appreciate filtering through information to amass clear, intelligible reports to administrators and corporate sheets of executives. That is a piece of what made me an effective budgetary investigator at XYZ Company, where I utilized that information to make basic proposals on fruitful interests in different nations. Which one shows more energy? 3. What words do I use to communicate my energy, abilities, and achievements? Solid activity words canreflect your enthusiasm for your work, and help pass on the message that you'll carry that energy to a new position. In the two models underneath, one passes on simply the realities, while different includes a touch of a bonus: Driven $1.5 million undertaking to supplant 2,500 corporate work area and PCs, 2 months in front of cutoff time. Led and directed $1.5 million work area and PC substitution venture, completing 2 months in front of cutoff time. At the point when you're discussing your profession achievements and your capacities to carry out the responsibility you're applying for, give the employing administrator motivation to call you for a meeting. Being qualified isn't sufficient, since others are probably going to have the equivalent or even a more elevated level of capabilities. Be that as it may, an inspirational standpoint is infectious, and infusing a little energy into your resume and introductory letter can catch the recruiting chief's eye and improve your odds of handling a meeting.

How to Sell Yourself During a Job Interview
Step by step instructions to Sell Yourself During a Job Interview Step by step instructions to Sell Yourself During a Job Interview I don't get it's meaning to perform well during a meeting? Indeed, you'll have to show that you have the correct foundation and experience, just as being a decent counterpart for the job and the organization's way of life. Think about this as an amped-up, in-person form of a similar work you did hands on application to get a meeting. Be that as it may, youll need to accomplish more than scratch off the crates on your questioners list - you need the individual you talk with to feel amped up for making an offer. That implies offering yourself to questioners, to clarify that you're a solid up-and-comer. Sound overpowering? Here's the manner by which to begin. Conduct Yourself With Confidence In the event that you feel uncertain about yourself during the meeting, it'll appear. Do all that you can to apparently extend certainty when you meet with questioners. What you state in light of inquiries is basic (more on that later) however how you state it, just as your general appearance and how you conduct yourself, is additionally important. Here are a couple of things to remember: Psyche Your Body Language Is it accurate to say that you are drooped in the seat? Squirming? Maintaining a strategic distance from eye to eye connection? These no-nos can cause you to seem unfocused, uninterested in the activity, or uncertain of yourself. Keep up great stance, look when you shake hands, and sit in a place that emanates commitment with the discussion. Here are non-verbal communication tips to follow during your next meeting. Watch Your Word Choices Nerves can make verbal spasms considerably progressively conspicuous. Attempt to abstain from saying um or like excessively and, check any inclination you need to take part in up-talk-talking with a rising tone toward the finish of each sentence. Uptalk is a discourse design which can cause you to appear to be juvenile. Recording yourself rehearsing inquiries questions-or having a companion practice with you-can assist you with distinguishing these propensities. Pick an Industry and Interview-Appropriate Outfit There is nobody answer for what to wear during a meeting. Do wear something you're agreeable (in the event that you have an irritated crease or continue pulling at a hemline, questioners may see) yet in addition pick an outfit that is appropriate for the particular meeting. What's suitable for a meeting at a style magazine, tech fire up, and retail work contrasts. Practice Answers, however Make Sure to Develop Ones That Are Specific and Memorable It's acceptable to rehearse what you'll state because of regular inquiries questions. Questioners will anticipate that you should be readied. Yet, on the grounds that the inquiries are normal, doesn't mean your answers ought to be! Keep in mind: you need to sell yourself during the meeting, and nobody is anxious to purchase a modest item. Mean to be essential, so your reactions stick in the questioner's memory, even days after a discussion. As you practice your reactions, remember these tips: Be explicit when you give a model. Don't simply say, My work on that venture set aside the organization cash. Tell questioners how much cash and what you did to spare it. Evade ambiguous answers Recount to a story as you relate something you have done or experienced. It's anything but difficult to state you're a group playing, conscientious self-starter. These popular expressions come up in work postings, however you must make an interpretation of them into tales about yourself. That demonstrates you have the quality. So as opposed to stating I'm a self-starter, state, When I went ahead board, there was a paper-and computerized based work process for the month to month report. I examined, and evacuating the paper-based work process brought about 10 percent investment funds and furthermore expelled copy work. I introduced my discoveries to the official group, and we changed to another, advanced just schedule the next month. The staff was soothed, and we're all glad to save nature. Keep It brief in your answers yet answer the immediate inquiry. Try not to meander aimlessly in your answers. It's smarter to delay for one moment to outline your musings than make a plunge and end up chattering for quite a long time upon minutes. Be conscious of questioners' time, and focus on signals. (In the event that questioners appear to be exhausted, they likely are - wrap it up!). Following these procedures will assist you with keeping away from dull reactions. Realize What Interviewers Want Here and there, what questioners need is self-evident: an applicant who can carry out the responsibility well, and fit in with the organization. In any case, this will fluctuate across positions, enterprises, and organizations. To pick up understanding into manager needs and needs, investigate the organization and industry. In the event that it's been some time (say, since you composed your introductory letter) examine the set of working responsibilities. Think consistently: What would i be able to accomplish for the organization? Will you assist them with selling more gadgets, resolve client protests quicker, smooth out the work process, or ensure clients are glad? Make sense of how you'll be valuable, at that point make sure it's understood in your inquiry question reaction. Put Your Strengths on Display Meetings are not the ideal opportunity for humility! Or maybe, it's a second when it's suitable to state I did XYZ or My work did ABC. Avoid saying we and make a point to specify your achievements. On the off chance that this feels awkwardly like gloating, consider confining achievements as far as different people groups remarks: My colleagues casted a ballot me best cooperative person two years running. In my yearly survey, my chief was thankful for my hierarchical capacities. Follow these means, and you'll make certain to intrigue questioners with your certainty and appropriateness for the position.

4 Company Holiday Party Mistakes to Avoid
4 Company Holiday Party Mistakes to Avoid People have different perspectives on company holiday parties. Some dread going to them every year, while others have waited for this day to come since the last one ended. Regardless of your opinion, company parties are generally seen as a requirement to attend. And since youâre going to attend, you might as well use it as an opportunity to enhance your branding rather than hurt it. Here are the top four company holiday party mistakes employees and executives make that they later regret. Drinking Too Much Many holiday parties will have an open bar, which means the possibility of over-drinking is high. Drinking too much can lead to saying things you donât necessarily mean, acting inappropriately and doing things youâll later regret. Itâs perfectly fine to have a couple of drinks while youâre socializing, but if you continue to drink throughout the night, mix in some water as welland eat! Not only will you feel better in the morning, youâll also protect your c-level personal branding reputation. You dont want to be that person that everyone talks about the following Monday. Eating Sloppilyor Not Enough Take advantage of the great food available to you, but donât go overboard. Be conscious of the people who will come up to greet you and always have a free hand available. And remember your manners, as you donât want to be the person who spits food out of their mouth while talking to others. As tempting as it is to load up on food, try not to overindulge. Also, you do want to make sure that you eat. You may be the type that maybe in social settings, or out of nervous energy drinks a lot of wine or coffee. Either of those in large quantities arent good for your system. Make sure you eat something to soak up the liquids you are consuming. Complaining Socializing You wouldnt complain during an interview, and the same is true at a holiday party. Whether youâre complaining about work, the food at the party, the environment or anything else, no one wants to hear it. Its not the time or the place. Turn complaints into compliments and you and the other attendees will have a much better experience. Make a conscious effort to talk to people from different departments, people you know by face, but never had a conversation with them. At a company party I was at (I was in medical sales way back when), I made an effort to talk to the accounting/payroll department and the shipping department. I had heard of the names of these people, but never met them. Yet, the accounting department wrote my checks and the shipping department were the folks who shipped out my supplies and made sure everything got to where it needed to go on time. Meeting them all really solidified the camaraderie you create when you work with a team. It was fantastic. After that, it w as much easier to call any of them to inquire about vendor invoices or find out where the product was. Not Arriving On Time or Staying Long Enough You can guarantee the top executives, managers and supervisors are taking note of who shows up, when they show up, and how long they stay. The rule of thumb is to arrive within 30 minutes or so of the start time and stay until the party is over, to the extent itâs possible. Showing up an hour late, eating some food, drinking a couple beverages and leaving early isnât going to look good for you. Make plans ahead of time to block off the appropriate amount of time to stay. Professional Resume Services is more than just one of the top resume writing services. We enjoy and take great pride in helping people with every aspect of their career, even if itâs giving out the best practices for holiday parties. Alexandra Levits Water Cooler Wisdom Employee Experience is Not Just for Full-Timers
Alexandra Levit's Water Cooler Wisdom Employee Experience is Not Just for Full-Timers In the last few years, much emphasis has been placed on designing a strong employee experience that encourages talent activation, engagement, performance, and retention. However, all more organizations move toward experience design, most focus almost exclusively on a full-time, uninterrupted employee experience. Most HR professionals recognize and support employee transitions such as maternity/paternity leave and FLMA or temporary leaves of absence. Some even encourage sabbaticals and phased retirement. However, the word transition must be used loosely here, because in most cases, the employee in question just reassigns her work, leaves, and then just shows up again several months later (or, in the case of phased retirement, changes her role without fanfare or much acknowledgement). If you really want your organization to derive value from these benefits, you must be strategic about designing an experience exclusively for every kind of transition situation or âcareer intermission.â Here are some questions to ask as you consider how to use each transition to strengthen your relationship with participating employees. Maternity/paternity leave:What projects is the employee looking to complete before this very personal event? At what place would she like to see her career when she departs? How can we keep her involved in a stress-free way while sheâs off? What specific steps will we take to ensure sheâs properly re-onboarded when she returns? FLMA/leaves of absence:How can we support him during this difficult time? What resources can we provide to help? How can we strengthen his commitment to the company when the crisis has passed? What specific steps will we take to ensure heâs properly re-onboarded when he returns? For more where this came from, check out the SilkRoad blog.

Why the Short Way of Writing Publications in Resume is Usually Preferred
Why the Short Way of Writing Publications in Resume is Usually PreferredThere are numerous reasons why the short way of writing publications in resume is usually the preferred method. Whether you are writing it for an interview or just to write a brief note to your contact, a short way of writing publications in resume can be a great way to go about things. The first and most important thing that you need to consider is how you want the message to come across. If it is going to be a lengthy note then you should not have to go through many or too many. However, if you are simply writing to have some good contact information, you should do a good job in keeping it brief and concise.Your writing should be easy to read and understand. If you have to spell out any important words then you should be clear about what they mean. If they are small and difficult to understand, the person reading the note is less likely to remember it later on. Remember, writing is not an exact science and what makes one great can look terrible to someone else.It is easy to go off on a tangent but it is much harder to end up on the wrong track. You need to stick to the topic that you want to cover. In this case, you will be discussing how you used to work in a particular field. If you spend too much time discussing the generalities of a specific field, the reader will find it hard to recall the information later on.Another reason that the short way of writing publications in resume is a popular way to go about things is because it is something that is often ignored. A lot of people just write down information in one big field and do not bother with the generalities of that field. They just hope that someone else will remember it someday.A magazine article is a form of written documentation. One thing that people forget when writing this type of documentation is to think about where it came from. What about your background was different than other people who were your contemporaries? That i s important information to include in the notes section of the resume.Biography is another example of writing materials that often get left out. Some people just use their first name and do not add their last name. When they get the chance to change it later on they do so, but there is no reason that the short way of writing publications in resume cannot include a biography. The reason why the short way of writing publications in resume is a popular way to go about things is because it is very simple. Everything is focused on the content and nothing else. If you have a few minutes each day to write it, why not make it a habit?

Ways to Get a Handle on Productivity Apps
Ways to Get a Handle on Productivity Apps When you first bought your Android phone, you were probably delighted with the number of apps you could download for both personal and business use. There are apps that can help you deposit a check right into your work account and an app that assists you in planning dinners based on what you have in your fridge. Then there are game apps, health apps, astronomy apps and much more. With so many choices when it comes to apps, you may have felt like you were visiting the app equivalent of an all-you-can-eat restaurant. Unfortunately, just as overeating can make you feel bloated and uncomfortably full, your smartphone may be showing similar signs of having too many apps by running really slowly and taking forever to load new programs. The expression âtoo much of a good thingâ definitely applies to apps and phones. In order to get your phone up and running at peak levels again â" as well as feel less overwhelmed by all of the stuff on your screen â" it is time for some serious app detox. In order to do this as easily and effectively as possible, check out the following tips: Start with the Apps You Never Use Use the same approach to app removal as you do donating the old clothes in your closet â" take an honest look at your dozens of apps and start deleting the ones you never use â" even some that are meant to help your business run smoother. If you never use that finance or invoicing app, it is taking up important real estate on your phone. In addition, any app that claims to save RAM on your phone should be deleted because they tend to use up battery life, and any sort of âcleaning appâ that promises to make your phone perform better should also be given the boot â" going into Settings and then Storage and Cached Data and tapping on Clear Cached Data will do the same thing. Next, Remove the Apps that Distract You From Work You may have a number of apps that you genuinely like and use often â" and this can be a problem. As a business owner, the last thing you want or need is a game or website tempting you with every glance at your phone. Classic examples of distracting apps include Facebook, Twitter and Instagram â" especially if they are set up to give you constant push alerts and notifications. Games like Candy Crush may also need to be deleted, especially if you find yourself trying to surreptitiously line up three candies in a row during a meeting. Other apps that deserve a rapid trip to delete land include shopping sites that encourage you to spend more money; getting rid of them will free up much-needed space on your phone as well as help save your hard-earned cash. Look Into Instant Apps The ability to temporarily download and use an app may be the coolest solution of all for app fans. Some of the top mobile platforms on the market today feature super-fast Gigabit LTE speeds, which will allow you to load an Android Instant App, up to 20MG in size, in just over a second. Once itâs on your phone, you can use the app for whatever you need it for and then when you are done it will automatically go away. Talk about having your cake and eating it too â" in this case you can use the app and save your phone space at the same time. Doing a full digital detox can take time and patience, and there may be setbacks along the way. But by standing firm in your resolve to clear your Android phone from unneeded apps and giving the Android Instant App feature a try, you will emerge victorious, less reliant on apps and youll enjoy a feeling of peace.

Why I Fell In Love With Traveling Alone - Cubicle Chic
Why I Fell In Love With Traveling Alone - Cubicle Chic Why I Fell In Love With Traveling Alone Lifestyle, Travel November 4, 2016 0 CommentsThanks to a few business trips, in 2016 Iâve traveled alone more than I had done in my entire life previously. Iâve journeyed through Munich, Neuschwanstein, D.C., and Boston, all by myself. Before you want to cue Celine Dionâs All By Myself for meâ¦. Hear me out.Initially, I traveled alone out of necessity â" I was already there, instead of staying in the hotel all day, I might as well go out and explore. But over time I realized I actually LOVE travel solo which is a huge surprise because I am one of those people that could never shop alone or go to a restaurant alone (not the case anymore but more on that later.)Traveling solo, I realized, is incredibly liberating. Coat: HM Boots: Public Desire Backpack: ASOS Square Leather Backback Coat: HM Boots: Public Desire Backpack: ASOS Square Leather Backback Coat: HM Boots: Public Desire Backpack: ASOS Square Leather BackbackTraveling alone is amazing because it allows yo u to..1) Do what YOU really want to doIf you want to explore a corner in the city, you make a turn. If you are intrigued by the décor of a coffee shop, you walk in. If you see a high tower on the top of a hill, and wonder what itâs like to be in itâ¦. You climb it! Thereâs no peopleâs interest level to consider, you just gotta do you.For people that are always saying âbut I donât know what I really want in lifeâ â" take a trip solo, go to places by yourself, and listen to your gut telling you what you REALLY want to do, and hone in on your self-listening skills. Itâs a very common but profound practice!2) Have no distraction and be presentThis doesnât mean you canât text or email friends once in a while, or even yelp or google places to go. I think thereâs a reverse, good kind of FOMO when youâre traveling alone because youâre afraid of missing out whatâs right in front of you. Somehow when we are traveling with others, when we know t heyâre taking photos, or they can tell us about what we missed if we just got distracted for a minute⦠itâs still being âcapturedâ and can be âreplayed.â When you travel alone, if you didnât see it with your own eyes, youâve missed it.Without any friends or family to talk to by your side, when you are at your destination, or a spontaneous visit to some unknown part of the place youâre visiting, you are there. Itâs you and that lake, or you and that castle, or you and that view; thereâs nothing in between. I call this the âI am hereâ moment⦠when you are fully aware and present of yourself being in a new environment, and fully appreciating the moment. Itâs an amazing feeling. You should try it. 3) Learn to be a mindful responsible travelerI for one am guilty of relying on friends and family for directions and ideas when I travel in a group. I know someone will come up with the place to go to, directions to get there, and what to do when we get there. I tend to just go with the flow in a group. When traveling alone, this approach wonât take me anywhere. I have to proactively plan, look things up, and know where my destination is. I am also notorious for being a very forgetful person who loses her belonging everywhere she goes. Traveling alone forces me to develop ways to keep myself more responsible and mindful of my belongings because I canât count on people reminding me that I left my sunglasses in the café, or I dropped my ferry ticket behind me when I stopped to take pictures, or that I left my camera on the bus I took. If these examples sound really specific, itâs because they all have happened to me. But strangely, it never happens when I am traveling alone. Itâs because I am actively watching my belongings as move about.4) Make new friends (if youâre lucky like me!) My friend Kay and me, in MunichStriking up a conversation with a stranger may not be everyoneâs cup of tea, but the key he re is to be open. Be friendly, and smile a lot. If you do this, people will come up to you. When I was exploring Munich this year in May, I wandered into a Jimmy Choo on Maximillian Strasse, a super high end, Rodeo Drive kind of place. I was just randomly browsing the beautiful shoes, thinking maybe for my wedding I would wear one of these beauties. A friendly sales girl started asking me about what I was looking for, what I liked, etc. We went on to talk about my wedding, and eventually where Iâm from. It had turned out that her parents are from Taiwan, and so am I⦠Next thing you know, we are looking at our schedule to get coffee the next day.Long story short, we became friends and toured around Munich the next day, and are still in touch today. She is moving to NYC later this year and might even come to California to visit me.Isnât this just amazing?5) Find confidence and a new youIf you find traveling alone scary, well, youâre not alone (haha). Typical thoughts are as such âwhat am I going to do with myself?â or âHow do I know where Iâm going to go?â or âWhat if I get really bored by myself?â or âWouldnât it be dangerous?âThese are all legitimate concerns, and it takes intention and preparation ahead of time to deal with them. In this process, you will learn to have faith in yourself, know that you are in control of your destination as long as you are prepared and willing and that even if things go unplanned, you can troubleshoot or go with the flow if need be. There is something that is not just liberating, but inspiring and growth-inducing about this very process. You learn to trust yourself in a way that you havenât before, and that makes you confident.Traveling alone, by default, also gives you a lot of time to be with yourself. It sounds like an oxymoron, but the truth is in our busy lives, we rarely spend alone time with ourselves. When we are, we feel the urge to fill it with our computer, phone and apps, and TV. When was the last time you asked yourself the same questions you ask your friends and family, âHow have you been?â or âAre you happy with your life?â or âWhatâs been on your mind lately, is there anything I can do to help?â A lot of these questions lead to discovery about where growth and improvement will come from in life, and are an incredibly critical skill to develop in life. So, have I convinced you a little bit? Let me know if you want to start planning a trip solo now, or youâve done it before, and where did you go!All Photography By Justin Tsai Photography

Post-Job Interview Follow-Up Dynamite or Deplorable (Part 2 of 2)
Post-Job Interview Follow-Up Dynamite or Deplorable (Part 2 of 2) Post-Job Interview Follow-Up: Dynamite or Deplorable? (Part 2 of 2) From a veteran hiring managerâs perspective, Iâve found that the weakest part of most job search processes is the deplorable state of follow-up. You can go from the perfect candidate to the bottom of the list before you even know it! Itâs so much more than thank you notes! (By the way, why arenât you sending yours?) Thank you notes and follow-up communications are NOT optional; they are required. In Part 1, I showed how great follow-up can put you ahead of other candidates, defined what world-class follow-up looks like and provided sample outlines for thank you notes and a second follow-up note. In this segment, Iâll give you some more tricks to improve your post-job interview follow-up and ways to avoid common mistakes and excuses. Tricks: 1. Always appear gracious, positive, patient, and interested. Speak in a very respectful manner if youre leaving a voicemail message, acknowledging that âI know you are very busy, but I wanted to follow up on the email I sent you and that Iâm still very interested in the position.â 2. When following up with an email, always attach the prior email you are referring to, keeping the context of the communication. If there was an attachment to the prior email, reattach it, as appropriate. Reattach your original application or cover letter and resume, if appropriate. 3. Match the communication medium the interviewer has been using, i.e. returning emails with emails, phone calls with phone calls. Job-Killer Mistakes: (Trust me, Iâve seen them all!) Mistake #1: Scathing follow-up emails from job seekers who think they are out of the running. Mistake #2: Rudeness or impatience. If the hiring manager gave you a specific date or timeframe, give them some room. Hiring processes take time and you dont want to seem overly anxious. Mistake #3: One-line emails: Can you call me back? Mistake #4: Group thank you notes (one e-mail to two or more people) imply you are lazy. Group notes are not â" by their very nature â" personal! Mistake #5: Careless copy and paste. Sending a personal thank you note addressed âDear Sallyâ and with a closure that says, âThank you, again, Bob.â Mistake #6: Misspellings, grammar, punctuation errors. This is another writing sample for the employer! Mistake #7: Gimmicks. Do not send flowers, a gift, nothing, nada. Mistake #8: Do NOT have a friend âswing byâ the hiring managerâs office and ask, âHow is Bob doing for your position hiring. Isnât he great?â Excuses: (If you dont want to do something, one excuse is as good as another. ~Yiddish Proverb) Excuse #1: âI knocked the interview out of the park, so no need to send anything since Iâll get the job.â Well, aside from being too cocky, which could have hurt you during the interview, there is no excuse for not being polite. And what if you were good in the interview, but not great, and the next candidate did send a compelling note? Excuse #2: âI donât have their email address.â Lesson learned. Ask for all email addresses while you are interviewing. However, if you forgot, contact the recruiter, HR manager, or anybody who might be able to give it to you. Simply say, âI would like to send them a thank you note,â so your intention is clear. Excuse #3: âThank you notes seem so phony. Iâm not the thank you note type.â First, they should be sincere. Sheer appreciation for their time and for considering you as a candidate should be reason enough to take 5 minutes to review your notes from that meeting and craft a thank you note. Second, if you are not the âthank you note type,â then learn to be one now! Excuse #4: âThey told me I will not be the final choice for the position, so no need to thank them.â Wrong. You want to add your interviewers to your network and you may want to contact them again. In addition, what if that company has another position that opens up? Take the high road and always, always send a thank you note and stay in touch after that. In your thank you note, you may say, âIf another position opens up within your organization, I am interested in being considered.â I want to help you stand out and win that job! Feel free to comment below with any additional challenges you face! Let me give you a hand; Iâm ready to help! Dana

How to Improve Collaboration with Colleagues
How to Improve Collaboration with Colleagues With new communication technology invented almost constantly, there seems to always be a new â" and theoretically better â" way to collaborate with coworkers. Despite differing opinions about communication technology, one thing seems to be well agreed upon: collaboration is key to a successful work environment. According to a 2015 study performed by Dimensional Research, 94% of the surveyed employees agreed that collaboration is vital to their work. Additionally, findings by Google Researchers revealed that successful collaborators tend to solve problems more efficiently, increase company profits and feel happier at work. So no matter what position you hold in the workplace â" whether youâre an entry-level worker, a long-term veteran, a manager or the CEO â" you will personally and professionally benefit from learning to collaborate with your colleagues in a progressive way. Explore Popular Collaborative Technologies Even though not all workers agree upon the best forms of communication technology, 83% admit to depending on technology to collaborate, according to Dimensional Researchs study. Eighty-two percent agree that losing their collaboration technology would impact their work. So even if workers dont always agree upon the best kinds of communication technologies, they are largely in favor of using them. To choose the best one for your business is really a matter of trial and error. A good place to start is with document-sharing platforms. These are some of the most commonly needed tools in todays fast-moving workplaces. Dimensional Researchs study lists these as the most popular: Dropbox Google Drive iCloud Instagram Pinterest Box Evernote SlideShare Basecamp For your own professional development, get to know each of these programs, or at least as many as you can. All document-sharing platforms have similar basic features, so the more comfortable you become with a few, the more easily you can adapt to them all â" including those your future workplace(s) chooses. Embrace Technology In and Out of the Office In addition to document-sharing platforms, technologies that allow real-time communication are becoming increasingly common. Many teams now have international employees and/or hired freelance workers who work remotely. It can be challenging to make such a widely distributed work community feel like one cohesive unit. Audio and video technologies help create that desired team cohesion. Technologies like Skype, Google+ Hangouts and Facebook video calling go beyond the standard, audio-only conference call by allowing speakers to see each other. However, among virtual teams, more advanced technologies may be necessary. Professional services that are secure and allow larger teams to communicate are growing in popularity. BlueJeans corporate webcasting, for example, is an up-and-coming interactive technology that allows collaboration between up to 100 employees no matter the location with industry-leading compatibility. Itâs secure and supported on any device, making it safe and easy to use. Determine the Best Technology for Your Team Strangely enough, millennials tend to struggle more with work-based collaborative technologies than baby boomers, according to the Dimensional Research study. This is, in all likelihood, a result of millennials being more comfortable with social media technologies like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest â" only a few of which made the list of most popular document-sharing platforms. For professional teams to work together more effectively, one of the first steps must be deciding which technologies the team will use to collaborate on the project at hand. Limiting the number of tools used can help reduce confusion and frustration, and ensure that all project-related data and ideas are in designated, easy-to-find places. To decide on your technologies, you and your fellow teammates must first acknowledge potential differences in preferences between generations and put those biases aside. Next, you must simply choose just one or two technologies to try based on anticipated project needs. As with any project, once it is completed, its a good idea to sit down and discuss the collaborative hits and misses with your team. Technologies used should be a part of this discussion. After the project is over, ask your teammates what they liked and disliked about the document-sharing platforms used. Based on your discussion, decide as a team whether to use those same technologies for similar future projects or to try out new ones. Make Time for Meetings While pursuing a collaboration groove,â watch out for the overuse of collaborative technologies. As important as collaboration is, itâs easy to become overwhelmed by incessant bombardment from colleagues. One of the simplest ways to reduce this collaboration stress is to take proactive action against it. Before starting the project, hold a face-to-face meeting with your colleagues. In this meeting, be sure to define each team members role in the project, to set clear and agreed-upon goals, to assign deadlines and to ask and answer any questions or concerns. As the project continues, hold regular meetings. In these meetings, discuss whats working and whats not â" with regard to communication, technology, project-specific challenges and the like. These intermittent meetings will not only answer questions and preemptively solve potential project setbacks, but they will also reduce the chances of overusing your communication technologies and create a feeling of support among team members. Define Team Roles and Responsibilities If responsibilities are ambiguous, productivity and collaboration will suffer. At the start of each project, teams should designate specific roles and tasks for each team member. Delineating tasks gives team members a sense of ownership over their work and ensures that no one is left with an unreasonable amount of the workload. Understanding each otherâs tasks and expectations also helps team members collaborate appropriately. So in your first project meeting, make sure this topic is discussed. In addition to assigning the specific responsibilities of each team member, be sure to also clarify the roles of each. For example, writing the budget section of a proposal is a specific responsibility. Acting as the budget expert, though, is a specific role that isnt necessarily limited to the budget section writer. By clarifying which person â" or people â" on the team are to be called upon as budget experts for this project, you are preemptively keeping the wrong people from getting bombarded about such questions. This role-assigning tactic is often overlooked, causing one poor worker â" generally either the project lead or the nicest guy on the team â" to be constantly trying to answer all his teammates questions when really, he shouldnt be the sole person of reference. Get to Know Your Team If you truly want to be part of a successfully collaborative team, you must recognize that theres more to collaboration than just having the right technologies. The members of a team â" both in and out of the workplace â" should be familiar and comfortable with one another. Ultimately, its up to you as a team member to make an effort to get to know your colleagues. It may sound intimidating or uncomfortable â" especially if youre the new person in the office â" but be bold! Invite your colleagues to an after-hours cocktail. Be the person in the office who starts a weekly bowling night tradition. If youre nervous, notice that these suggestions include workers, plural, meaning you dont have to start with an awkward one-on-one. In the meantime, while youre plotting your social scheme, get in the habit of simply asking your colleagues how theyre doing. Some will say fine and move on, but others will tell you about their day, their kids, their boyfriends and so on. By taking this basic step in socialization, youre laying the groundwork for an out-of-work invitation, learning a little bit about them and showing them that youre trying to be a pro-collaboration colleague. By getting to know your coworkers in more than a strictly all business sense, you get to learn more about their individual personalities. This, in turn, helps you to understand them, connect with them and, ultimately, work with them more effectively. And, as an added bonus, you may discover common interests and build new friendships. Do Your Part for Collaboration Working collaboratively can be a challenge among the varied generations that make up todays workforce, but its far from impossible. Do your part as a team member by staying open-minded to your colleagues ideas, continuing to try out new technologies and being hands-on about making your team a team that clicks.
